GSMGuy Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 Does your interior lamp, hazards and cig lighter work? If not, check your fuses... Mike Quote
Guest niesmann Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 Hi there The cig lighter etc all seem to work as does the trip computer, it's when you turn off the ignition it seems to reset Thanks for your help Quote
Masked Marauder Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 Check fuses 2, 19, 20 & 25 if your car is a pre-August 2000 model Quote
Guest sufc38 Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 Hi, There are two modes on the trip computer: MF1 which resets on each new journey and gives you the details for a particular journey except for stops of under approx 15 mins. MF2 which only resets when you maually reset by pushing the button on the end of the stalk in for about 10 seconds. The two modes on my 98 Sharan are operated by a rocker switch on the end of the trip computer stalk. Hope this helps. Mike Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 ..... for some reason the trip meter and the trip computer keep resetting everytime I turn off the ignition ..... Do you mean the mileometer lcd under the total distance recorder resets to zero each time? Sure that the reset button isn't stuck in, and that the bonnet is closed properly ..... Quote
Guest niesmann Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Hi all Sorry for the lack of response been away for a couple of weeks. Both the mileometer and the trip computer reset when the ignition is off but the main distance counter is OK I've checked all the things mentioned so far but with no luck any further ideas would be appreciated. Guest marcusheawood Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Sounds like a short circuit on the instrument panel circuit board somewhere... Quote
Guest niesmann Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Hi Again This problem with the trip meter and trip computer is doing my head in !! does anyone know if there is a backup battery or anything anywhere ? If there was a fault with the circuit board surley it would not work at all. THanks Quote
Steven.Langdale Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Mine does this if I remove the battery. When you turn the ingnition on, do all the dials sweep to max then back down? It sounds like there should be a perm live to the instrument panel and it's not there. Let us know the answer to the above question, it may help. Steven Quote
Guest niesmann Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Hi There I did wonder if there should be a permanent live feed, but I can't find any mention of it anywhere. My clocks do not sweep around the dial when the ignition is turned on should they ? Apparantly the vehicle stood for a long period of time with no battery would this cause the symptons. Help Quote
Steven.Langdale Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 They shouldn't sweep, mine do only if the battery has been disconnected. I think there must be a working live feed. Have you had the instrument cluster out and given the connectors a bit of a waggle? You never know. Steven Quote
Guest niesmann Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Thanks for that I'll give it a try later. Been out and tried taking the panel out and waggling the connector all seems ok I've replaced a couple of bulbs at the same time but the problem is still there !! I'm going to find it eventually !! I've noticed that there a number of wires on the Positive battery clamp one is very thin and the connector could be a bit corroded does anyone know if this is a live feed for the dash ?? Thanks Quote
